Position Overview Assist the EHS Environmental, Health & Safety Department with Harrison Construction, companywide related compliance in both office and field site visits as required.
This will be a Full-Time hourly position with benefits.
There will be additional opportunities to work with all avenues of the Ready Mix, Hot Mix Asphalt, Mining and Construction branches of the company while inspecting machinery, equipment, and working conditions in the construction setting to ensure compliance with occupational safety and health regulations.
This position will also assist in all aspects of Environmental compliance.
Compiles data and reports EHS stats to management personnel weekly.
Requirements Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be skilled in Microsoft Office Suite and be willing to learn new software.
Ability to work independently and in a team atmosphere.
Willingness to travel to field sites both in TN and NC.
Ability to review, comprehend, and summarize documents for your supervisor.
Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Strong Organizational skills and attention to detail.
Attitude/cooperation: always maintaining courteous and professional manner with co-workers, customers and public.
Willingness to ask questions.
Must adhere to Code of Business Conduct.
Current MSHA/OSHA training or the ability to obtain Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions) Data Entry, Organizing, Filing, for permit compliance.
Completing jobsite audits and providing helpful feedback to operators and crews.
Work with other departments to troubleshoot problems and document results.
Work with local municipalities and government agencies for water and air compliance Inspects machines and equipment for accident prevention Observes workers to determine use of prescribed safety equipment, such as safety glasses, hard hats, goggles, respirators and other PPE needs Inspects specified areas for fire-prevention equipment and other safety and first-aid supplies Tests/identifies working areas for noise, toxic, and other hazards, using decibel meter, gas detector, and light meter Document all accidents, safety violations, unsafe conditions/activities Prepares report of findings with recommendations for corrective action/s Investigates accidents to ascertain causes for use in recommending preventive safety measures and developing safety program/s Ability to demonstrate use of safety equipment Ability to train employees with public speaking skills as needed Ensures compliance with OSHA/MSHA regulations Coordinates of Safety programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses Works in conjunction with HR and EHS Manager on workers compensation incidents Additional assignments per EHS Manager’s instructions Weekly job site/Harrison location visits Qualifications Education/Experience College degree or related experience for the position preferred.
High school graduate or equivalent required with the ability to interpret and apply verbal and/or written instructions in English.
Must be willing to gain familiarity with mining/construction/permitting/IT activities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
At least 1–2 years of construction or industrial safety, and/or environmental health and safety experience preferred Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Physical ability to traverse jobsites while documenting observations and completing audits.
Other physical demands that may be utilized but can be modified to fit individual needs include: twisting, reaching, standing, walking, and typing.
