BUILDING SUBSTITUTE TEACHER Emerald Academy is Knoxville’s first college preparatory charter school.

We will create an environment where teachers are empowered to make instructional decisions using the most current student evidence (data) and the team’s instructional expertise.
REPORTS TO: Director of Operations JOB SUMMARY: The Building Substitute serves as a substitute teacher when a classroom teacher is not available and may cover for multiple teachers during a given day.
When not working as a substitute teacher, the Building Substitute supports the Director of Operations.
JOB DUTIES: Curriculum and Instruction Work as a substitute teacher.
Share best practices with other teachers.
Collaborate with other teachers to improve instructional and assessment practices.
Culture Support EA’s mission, philosophies, values, goals, and policies towards scholars, parents/guardians, and coworkers.
Lead a classroom culture of high expectations that includes college preparation for all scholars.
Keep the classroom environment organized, attractive, and safe.
Interact frequently and respectfully and scholars.
Internal Operations Support the Directors as requested, when not working as a substitute teacher.
Perform other duties as regular staff, including arrival, dismissal, and lunch duty.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree required Tennessee Teacher License preferred Teaching experience in urban education preferred Highly qualified in content area and/or grade level Uses data to drive instruction Highly organized Has the work ethic and desire to go above and beyond Respected presence and ability to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor Demonstrated ability to work as a team member and foster collaboration Growth mindset: the flexibility to learn new methods and present new ideas Commitment to Emerald Academy’s mission and high expectations Examples of high energy, the belief that all kids can learn and achieve at high academic levels, and commitment to change the academic trajectory for city kids START DATE: Immediately: 2021-2022 Academic School Year
