Title: Career Development Transfer Coordinator This is a grant funded position until September 30, 2028.

Pay will be determined based on related work experience above required.

Position Summary: The Pellissippi State Community College's Career Development Transfer Coordinator is responsible for leading and coordinating initiatives that aim to achieve the college's strategic objectives to enhance career development and university transfers.
The main goal is to ensure that students have a seamless transition from PSCC to further academic or professional pursuits as part of the Title III Grant objectives.
Report to the Director of Career Development Director and work with the Title III Project Director to align Career Development with educational programming and workforce demand.
The coordinator will provide individualized advice and support to students regarding potential career and transfer pathways through assessment and coordination with Transfer Hub staff.
Develop and implement work-based learning opportunities such as internships, job shadowing, employment skills workshops and training, and informational sessions about diverse professions and industries.
Research and plan industry-recognized credential prep and certification/badging opportunities to align with the College’s Reimagining Community College goals and Guided Pathway work.
Essential Functions: 30% Career Exploration: Offer individualized advice to students about potential career paths based on comprehensive services, including analysis of YouScience career assessments.
Facilitate workshops and other career awareness activities on diverse professions, exposing students to a range of industries and roles.
Foster a culture of career exploration, aiding students in understanding the alignment between their studies and potential career trajectories.
Work closely with Academic and Student Affairs staff to implement the Career Mentor component of the Student Success Teams, including recruitment and training of Career Mentors 30% Transfer Assistance and Enhancement: Drive initiatives that actively elevate PSCC’s transfer rate.
Work with Transfer Hub, Career Development staff, and other College departments to coordinate transfer fairs and build partnerships with four-year institutions to create seamless pathways for students.
15% Work-Based Learning (WBL) Cultivation: Develop and maintain a continuum of WBL opportunities, ensuring students gain practical industry experience through workplace tours, guest speakers, career fairs, career training and mentoring, and other employer engagement opportunities.
Collaborate with local businesses and industries to create internships, apprenticeships, and job-shadowing opportunities.
15% Credentialing & Certification Guidance: Works with Director of Career Development to develop employability-related industry-recognized credential opportunities that are relevant to educational and industry pathways based on demand from workforce partners.
Assist students in recognizing and pursuing relevant industry credentials that boost their employability.
Offer information/prep sessions on the importance of certification in specific industries, creating a roadmap for students.
10% Data Collection, Monitoring & Reporting: Work closely with the Title III Project Director and Student Experience Data manager to monitor and report on transfer rates, WBL participation, and students’ career transitions.
Regularly assess the efficacy of career, transfer, and WBL services, refining strategies based on student feedback and changing industry requirements.
5% Resource & Partnership Development Use the College’s tools and programs (i.
e.
, Cynaptx, YouScience, and Navigate) to establish a repository of career, transfer, and credentialing resources accessible to students.
Engage with academic departments, industry experts, and other colleges to fortify career, transfer, and WBL opportunities and organizational tools.
5% Administration: The incumbent will submit monthly reports to the Director of Career Development and Project Director detailing progress toward Title III grant deliverables.
Serve on College committees as assigned; participate in relevant professional organizations and professional development activities that enhance the College mission.
Some travel related to job duties across Knox and Blount counties, the east TN region, and the state.
Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements: Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience in career development, Career and Technical Education, Workforce Development, academic advising, or transfer coordination within the context of higher education.
Four years of experience in Higher Education, Career and Technical Education, or Workforce Development.
Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% credit of full-time work experience.
Skills/Abilities: Experience in career development, Career and Technical Education, Workforce Development, academic advising, or transfer coordination within the context of higher education.
Strong networking abilities within the academic and local industry communities.
Familiarity with state or federal grant programs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
Possesses a high degree of attention to detail.

Complexity & Creativity: The Title III grant outlines specific strategies, activities, milestones, and deliverables.
However, the grant does not provide a step-by-step procedure for accomplishing the required outcomes, milestones, and deliverables.
Working within the college's policies and procedures and state and federal guidelines, the Career Development/Transfer Coordinator must use creative “outside the box” thinking to develop the best strategy to achieve the grant's goals.
The capability of not being hindered by implied limitations can be immensely valuable.
Additionally, it is essential to avoid spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors in written communication.
This role requires adaptability, problem-solving, attention to detail, and an understanding of the institutional and departmental mission.
Magnitude of Impact: Decisions could impact the success of completing the strategies, activities, milestones, and deliverables of the Title III Grant (specifically, the successful expansion of Activity II initiatives), which could, in turn, affect the college’s goals in receiving other grant-funded opportunities.
The position requires collaboration with different areas of the college, including Stay Strong Center, Advising, New Student Orientation, Academic Affairs, and the Transfer Hub.
Responsibility for Accuracy: Prompt communication of changes is crucial to avoid communication errors.
Not being aware of changes can lead to misunderstandings, delays, and even loss of business.
By disseminating information in a timely manner, employees can prevent errors and maintain positive relationships with clients and colleagues.
Financial Impact: There are both financial and non-financial consequences to consider, such as the possibility of losing grant funding if objectives are not achieved or resources are not managed properly.
However, it is important to note that the Career Coordinator's primary focus will be on programmatic tasks related to student recruitment, retention, and engagement rather than directly managing material assets.
As a result, the risk associated with this role is relatively low when compared to other positions that have greater responsibility for managing material assets.
Budgetary: Although not directly responsible for the budget, the position provides input on material, supply, and travel needs.
Judgement and Decisions: This position has input in aspects of decision-making within Career Development and Title III grant initiatives.
In addition, the incumbent also makes decisions regarding services and programming provided to students.
Nature of Contacts: Interactions within the College involve providing and obtaining information, discussing various areas of the College, seeking understanding, resolving conflicts, and planning and implementing Career Development events and publications.
Contacts within the College include support staff from different departments, faculty and deans, Registrar, Marketing, Advisors, IT, Site Deans, media/tech department, financial aid, managers, Assistant VP, Vice President, President, cohort director, curriculum director, and Foundation office.
Outside of the College, contacts include potential students, parents, high school educators (administration/teachers/counselors), middle school and elementary personnel, Department of Education representatives, personnel from other higher education institutions (administrators, recruiters, etc.
), community leaders, employers, non-profit organizations, and others.
Physical Demands: An extensive amount of walking, standing, traveling, and lifting, including a minimum of 30 lbs lifting, is required.
Additionally, the job involves a significant amount of computer work.
Hazards: Injury from lifting or standing for long periods of time, and injuries from activities/programming.
