The University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications for an Advisor I in the College of Communication and Information (CCI).

The Position: This position reports to the Associate Director in the College of Communication and Information (CCI)’s Undergraduate Programs and Advising Unit, serving as an Advisor I.
This position is responsible for promoting academic advising as a critical component of a student's educational experience and undergraduate success.
This role provides comprehensive academic advising and guidance and assists students in self-exploration, major and career exploration, and in identifying career and professional opportunities throughout their academic careers.
It assists students to develop educational plans consistent with their aspirations, interests, strengths, and values.
It will encourage holistic engagement with the college experience (academically, socially, culturally, and professionally).
It fosters students' intellectual and personal development toward academic success, provides and teaches college/university curricula, academic standards, the purpose of general education requirements, and academic policies and processes.
Guides students in critically reflecting on academic and career goals.
Serves as advising subject matter experts to faculty advisors.
Serves as advising subject matter experts to faculty advisors.
Engages in student recruitment and orientation activities and supports and participates in relevant college programs/events.
Represents the college at professional organizations, on campus events, at college events related to student advising, recruitment, and placement.
The Advisor I is expected to:
· Assist students in developing academic plans to meet desired goals.
· Teach the DARS and uTrack systems.
· Teach/provide college, school, and university policies and procedures.
· Evaluate student progress.
· Evaluate students' needs in order to make appropriate referrals to campus and college resources.
· Conduct academic probation and off-track advising.
· Advise prospective students.
· Prepare for advising appointments.
· Maintain advising notes and forms in Navigate.
· Correspond with students on a regular basis.
· Assist with planning, organizing, and presenting college sessions for first-year and transfer student orientations.
· Teach/provide curriculum, advising resources, and policies and procedures.
· Assist students in academic planning, course selection, and registration.
· Engage in student recruitment activities and outreach activities.
· Represent the college at campus and college events related to student advising.
· Co-create a personal and professional development plan with the supervisor.
· Participate in committee assignments as delegated.
· Attend college and staff meetings.
· Attend university events, meetings, and ceremonies as needed.
· Participate in college's commencement ceremony.
· Other duties as assigned.
To be successful in this role, candidates are required to possess:
· Master’s Degree, any field.
· Advising or related experience on a college/university campus working with a diverse population of undergraduate students
· Strong oral and written communication skills
· Ability to relate effectively with diverse university community
· Administrative and organizational skills
· Ability to utilize technology that supports both students and professional practice

Experience with first year student programming, student engagement initiatives, and/or student ambassadors
