Academic Advisor- College Of Education, Health, & Human Sci University of Tennessee, Knoxville in Knoxville, TN Type: Full-Time Posted: 04/22/2024 Category: Academic Advising Description Academic Advisor- CEHHS Office of Advising and Student Services Regular, Fulltime, Pay Range MR07 Multiple Positions Available The Position The Academic Advisor position is an entry level advising position.
This particular position is temporary in nature and designed to support the operations of the College of Education, Health & Human Sciences' Office of Advising and Student Services during a period of high need.
The advisor will be engaged in academic advising activities that support his/her unit and college in the delivery of academic advising.
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide comprehensive academic advising and professional guidance for students pursuing undergraduate majors in CEHHS.
Qualifications Job Functions/Responsibilities: Ensures comprehensive, quality academic advising and professional guidance for approximately 300 undergraduate students interested in pursuing programs within the college.
This may include advising special populations such as honors students, student-athletes, students identified as at-risk by faculty or staff, college exploratory students, etc.
Works to co-create an academic plan with students using the Advising 2020 model which incorporates self-exploration, career exploration, and experience learning.
Meets individually with prospective students as needed - new transfer students, potential change of major students from other colleges, and students researching college programs for the first time.
Is responsible for understanding university academic policies and curricular/graduation requirements for programs within the college.
Helps lead freshmen and transfer orientations at the start of each semester.
This includes assisting with the orientation presentations, reviewing curricular information with small groups of students, and providing individual academic advising and registration review to new students at UT.
Documents student contact using GradesFirst.
Remains responsive to student questions via email or phone.
Assists with file review and retention outreach at the end of each term and participates in recruitment events, as needed, throughout the year.
Assists with the college's spring commencement ceremony, attends staff meetings, and participates in professional development opportunities, as appropriate.
Requirements: * Master's degree or documentation the degree is attainable within one academic term of employment.
Degree should be in student services or related field Experience in advising, counseling, mentoring, or academic coaching at the college or university level is required.
Preferred Experience: * Experience in academic advising at the college or university level.
Experience with Banner and MS Office.
Needed Competencies/Qualifications * Strong written, oral communication, and organizational skills.
* Ability to multi-task.
