*Minimum qualifications in order to function in this position:*
* Must to able to read and write English
* Must have reliable transportation with valid insurance coverage
* Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds
* Must be able to read and write, follow verbal and written instructions, and complete written reports and documents
*Successfully complete training or demonstrate understanding and practical competency in the following areas:*
* Understanding the needs and characteristics of elderly, handicapped, ore convalescing individuals
* Transportation and escort services
* Housekeeping to include sanitation
* Home Safety
* Handling medical emergencies in the home
* Infection control
* Meals - patient feeding responsibilities.
Some patients will require direct feeding, while others may just need their meal brought to them and set up.
* Oral care, nail care, and basic hygiene
* Toileting of patients – often patients will need help with moving on and off of the facilities.
Some patients may need help with a bed pan.
* Ambulation assistance – some patients need help getting in and out of beds, wheelchairs, bathtubs, etc
* Vital signs – blood pressure, pulse and temperature monitoring
* Turning of bedridden patients – this is done to take the weight off of the pressure points and prevent bedsores from occurring
* Changing bed clothes and collecting soiled laundry
* Light cleaning and organizing of patient’s room or area
* Laundry / vacuuming / dusting / dishwashing
* Running errands for client (medication pick-up / grocery shopping / etc.
)
* Relaying and charting requested information – this may include moods, vital signs, meal consumption, liquid intake, and daily BM and urine amounts.
* Relaying information to the next CNA / PCA on shift or to the nurse’s in charge
* Recreational activities such as assisting with a walk outdoors or delivering reading material to patients
