SHADES of Development is a non-profit afterschool program that provides learning-based educational programming.
We operate in 13 schools across Knox County.
This position is for an Preschool Assistant.
Location of openings: Fort Sanders Preschool
The goal of a Preschool Specialist is to provide a safe and fun environment that allows children to explore, experiment, and challenge their social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
Preschool Specialist are adults that build caring, trusting, and mutually respectful relationships with children through sharing knowledge, actively listening, modeling appropriate behavior, setting limits, and consistently enforcing limits.
Preschool Specialist duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
* Alert and responsive supervision of children in the program
* Supervising and/or leading activities in the following areas
* Learning Centers (STEM/Creative Arts) SHADES Time
* Gym Homework
* Playground Clubs
* Technology Story Time
* Setting limits for children
* Enforcing limits set for children in a consistent and respectful manner
* Using redirection techniques, conflict resolution, and cooling off periods when necessary
* Documenting incidents and accidents
* Knowing developmental characteristics of the ages and stages of school-age children
* Following health and safety guidelines – hand washing, universal precautions, safe lifting techniques, etc.
* Tracking children
* Ability to run and restrain a child if necessary (only when involving issues of safety)
* Gathering and returning activity supplies each day
* Working an extended day on alternative days
* Practicing straight-line communication with children, parent, co-workers, and school personnel
* Making judgements that reflect the SHADES of Development philosophies and guidelines concerning safety, health, behavior, and program mission
*Qualifications:*
* High School Diploma or higher
* 1 years+ of child care experience in a group setting

*Hours and Compensation:*
* Part-time, hourly position.
Starting salary range based on experience and education ($15.
00-$19.
00 per hour).
Pre-employment background check, fingerprinting, physical and drug screen required.
