The Application Development Division of the Information Technology Services Directorate at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks to hire an Automation Engineer to design, develop, and maintain automation playbooks and modules on the Ansible platform.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Collaborate with software engineers, system administrators, and other IT professionals to automate the delivery of IT Services and the fulfillment of IT administrative tasks using the Ansible platform.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues in our dev, test, and production environments.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, technical, or related field and 5 years of relevant experience.
An equivalent combination of skills and experience may be considered.
Experience in all phases of software development including requirements gathering and analysis, system design, prototype development, configuration control, testing, software quality assurance, and maintenance.
Experience in multiple programming or scripting languages.
Experience with Ansible automation technologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability and willingness to learn new programming languages, development platforms, applications, and frameworks.
Experience with DevOps, Linux, Windows, virtualization/containerization technologies (VMWare, Docker), networking technologies, and project management.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
