Clinical Informatics Specialist - 230000026A Clinical Informatics Specialist Student Health Center The Student Health Center (SHC) within the Division of Student Life invites applications for the position of Clinical Informatics Specialist.
The Clinical Informatics Specialist works with the SHC staff to assist with the use, maintenance, and upkeep of computer hardware, software, and data systems.
They also act as a mediator between the SHC clinical staff and informatics staff of the division and university and serve as the first-line resource to assist with health center-specific IT hardware and software systems.
The mission of the SHC is to meet the acute primary healthcare needs of eligible University community members.
These services include personal health care, health promotion and education, consultation, and educational experiences for selected students pursuing careers in the health and wellness professions.
The Position: The Clinical Informatics Specialist serves as a bridge between both SHC clinicians and administrative staff by managing data generated by and for the SHC.
They monitor SHC systems data entry to collect information on existing practices.
They serve as a first-line responder to the health center's computer hardware and software operational and maintenance needs.
They also compile monthly data from different preexisting sources and run reports to obtain other data points in coordination with the Billing Manager for billing compliance, in coordination with the Medical Director or other healthcare staff for clinical efficiency, and in coordination with the Quality Improvement committee for quality improvement purposes.
Responsibilities: Hardware and software management o Analyze and leverage collected data to facilitate optimization of patient care and best business practices o Work closely with management teams to observe how data plays out when put into practice o Utilize Medicat Business Intelligence platforms to generate operational management reports for administrative purposes and clinical reports for healthcare staff o Observe administrative and clinical staff and monitor how IT systems affect patients and modify plans for future computer programs o Serve as the on-site superuser for health center-specific hardware and software platforms o Serve as the health center IT representative for major software platforms, including but not limited to Medicat, Orchard, Aspyra, Medview, and RCopia, and interface with vendors and Student Life Technology Services staff as needed o Maintain logins for health center-utilized software platforms o Assist in maintaining the health center's website and electronic billboards Problem resolution and training o Coordinate between different functional areas of the health center to ensure IT systems are managed and maintained in a manner that promotes uninterrupted operation o Help educate staff on correct procedures and the use of existing and new IT systems and assist in training staff on how to use data systems and troubleshoot software, including but not limited to assisting with log-in issues, password assistance, printer connectivity issues, resolving network issues, hardware setup, and routine maintenance and removal o Interface between health center staff and other departments when needed to resolve hardware/software-related problems o Interface between health center staff and other departments when needed to resolve hardware/software-related problems Data collection and management o Collaborate with the Community Health Data Analysts to ensure data effectively flows into the Tableau dashboard, and, as needed to allow leadership to make informed decisions, integrate feedback and requested adjustments following meetings where the dashboard is shown o Support workflow integrity by collaborating with divisional and university OIT staff to ensure timely and accurate data integrations from multiple APIs The University and Region: UTK is the state’s flagship, land-grant university.

What We Require Education: High School diploma or GED Experience: Three years of experience in IT or related field Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of various computer programming languages and platforms Knowledge of basic computer design and operation Operational knowledge related to IT networking Ability to spend time on their feet and move around during the day Ability to show compassion and the desire to help people Strong communication skills to develop positive rapport with patients and staff Analytical and observational skills to evaluate the effectiveness of one's own job duties Reading comprehension skills and abilities to adapt to changing work environment Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Ability to work in a healthcare setting and observe strict confidentiality guidelines Strong knowledge of HIPPA and FERPA regulations What We Prefer: Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, IT, Healthcare, or a related field Experience: Work experience in a healthcare delivery environment Salary: The salary for this position is commensurate with experience and other qualifications and is accompanied by a standard university benefits package.
This is a non-exempt, 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track staff position.
